December has always been a cherished month for us, brimming with joy, warmth, and celebration. It's a time when we embrace all the things that make the holiday season so special—decorations, family traditions, and our wedding anniversary (this year marks our 35th). There's something incredibly nostalgic about the holiday season, a mix of memories and new moments that come together to create an unforgettable atmosphere of festive cheer.
One of our favorite traditions is picking out Christmas trees from our local garden center. It's a simple but meaningful ritual that always feels like the official start of the season. This year, we were on the lookout for a tall, majestic tree to grace the Barn Lounge, which is on display all day and evening. For the inside, we choose a smaller tree to add that perfect cozy touch to our living room.
The best parts of the holiday season go far beyond the trees. There's nothing quite like sipping on a cup of homemade eggnog, thick and creamy, spiced, or should I say spiked, just right while sitting by the fire or while watching a "Hallmark" Christmas movie. And then there’s the gathering. We look forward to meeting up with friends for holiday cheer, toasting with cocktails in hand, and catching up on the year gone by. The laughter, the stories, and the shared joy of the season make these moments special.
Food plays a starring role in our December celebrations, too. The kitchen is filled with the aromas of family recipes being prepared, each dish carrying a sense of tradition and love. We (or should we say I, Wine) bake nutrolls, carefully hand-rolled and filled with a sweet, nutty filling that’s become a beloved treat in our home and one that we share with loved ones. Pierogies—those delicious dumplings, stuffed with potatoes, cheese, and bacon—always make an appearance, reminding us of the heartwarming meals shared over the years. And last but not least, the very popular Italian cookies, each one baked and topped with creamy glaze and colorful Nonpareils, adding a touch of sweetness to our holiday gatherings.
Another special part of December is taking the time to write and send Christmas cards to family and friends, both near and far. There’s something about sitting down with pen and paper and sending well wishes. Whether it's a simple note or a heartfelt letter, these cards are a way to connect, to let loved ones know we’re thinking of them, and to share the joy of the season across distances.
In the midst of all these traditions, it’s easy to see why December is such a cherished month. It’s about more than just the decorations, twinkling lights, festive greens, and the food—it’s about the warmth of togetherness, the celebration of love and family, and the joy of creating lasting memories.
Merry Christmas, may you find peace, joy, and happiness this holiday season. 🎄🎅
