Journey from New Hampshire to Greensboro: A Motorhome Adventure for a Wedding

Updated: Nov 24

Traveling in a motorhome offers a unique blend of freedom, exploration, and connection, and our recent trip from New Hampshire to Greensboro, North Carolina, was no exception. We set off to celebrate the wedding of an old friend's daughter, eager for both the festivities and the adventures along the way.

Our journey began with a night at Appalachian Brewing Co in Mechanicsburg, PA. This Harvest Host location offered great craft beers, food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Along with two other RV travelers, we parked in the paved lot large enough to keep the Jeep hooked up; we love that.

Our travel from PA to North Carolina, we took a slight detour to visit Monticello in Charlottesville, VA. Touring Thomas Jefferson's historic estate and its stunning gardens was a highlight of our trip. The views are breathtaking, and we felt a connection to the history that shaped our nation.

We toured the grounds and gardens; that was our main interest. The interior can be toured online which is an efficient way to learn about the design and to see more detail.

Even though we were at Monticello on a gray day, it was still delightful and beautiful. The rolling hills of the countryside was lush and green creating a lovely contrast to the overcast skies.

Take a walk with us through the garden and grounds.

Arriving in Kernersville, NC, we mooch-docked at the home of our friends, D & A. We met them in April 2022 at the Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort, and since then, our annual meetups have become a regular thing.

Somehow, we never got a group photo with D&A, just video. Here they are visiting us in October '23 in Virginia.

They graciously “babysat” our dog, Bell, while we attended the wedding welcome party and festivities. Bell was a good doggy on night one. However, Bell had other plans on the second night. She decided to go on an adventure of her own, wandering into the woods and leaving D & A in a bit of a panic. Thankfully, Bell was soon found, and we all had a good laugh about her escapade. 😳

The Wedding Celebration

The wedding took place at the elegant Grandover Resort in Greensboro. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and warm Southern hospitality, it was a perfect venue for a celebration. Reconnecting with Wine's high school besties and their husbands added to the joy of the occasion. We shared cocktails, exchanged stories, and reminisced about the good old days, filling the air with laughter and nostalgia.

D&A took us to Old Salem, a living museum that immerses visitors in the Moravian culture of the 18th century. Walking through the historic streets, we marveled at the well-preserved buildings and engaged with the knowledgeable staff who brought history to life. It was a delightful day. There will be a video of this walking tour.

Our last day in North Carolina was chill; it was day to rest. D&A were hosting a dinner party with local friends for which D made a smoked pork butt. YUM! Here is a video showing our lovely moochdocking site that had full hookups and a bit of our time at their beautiful home in the woods.

The journey home was driven in three days with two overnight Harvest Host Stays. On the first leg of drive back to New Hampshire, we stopped at Trump Winery in Charlottesville, VA. The stunning views of the vineyards combined with some delightful wine made for a relaxing excursion. We savored the flavors and soaked in the picturesque surroundings. Even Bell was able to enjoy the landscape as the winery is dog friendly.

The first night of our journey home was spent in the parking lot of an old inn in Middletown, VA. The inn was nondescript and closed that day, so there's not much to report. Nonetheless, the host kindly provided electricity for the night, which was a pleasant convenience.

Night number two was spent at a Harvest Host at Wright's Farm in Gardiner, NY parked in the orchard. Surrounded by rows of apple trees and farm meadow, the tranquil setting invites you to enjoy leisurely strolls through the orchard. The warm glow of the sunset casts a beautiful light over the landscape, making it the perfect backdrop for our last night away from home and the apple cider donuts were the perfect pairing with coffee in the morning.

After an unforgettable journey filled with friendship, laughter, and exploration, we returned home safe and sound. Traveling by motorhome allowed us to connect with people we care about. This trip was not just about attending a wedding; it was a reminder of the bonds we share and the adventures that lie ahead. Here’s to more journeys, more laughter, and more memories in the making!
