A stray / abandoned rooster has made his home at our home. Rocky spent the summer in our neighbor's yard foraging under the bird feeders. Our neighbor tried chasing him away by running after him with a broom. We got a lot of laughs out of that. But now the laugh is on us.
Rocky has been "ours" since November. He has been entertaining to watch. We learned that roosters can climb trees and somewhat "fly". Here is Rocky's morning ritual as he comes down from roosting way up in the hemlock tree.
Play in reverse to see the same process after sunset.
Rocky likes fresh water and food everyday. I (Wine) apparently have a pet rooster. Therefore, every morning once he is down from the tree I am tossing him some food and setting out water.
A local friend has a farm with eight hens. The plan is to rehome Rocky to the farm so he can have hens for company. Before the snow returned we tried to capture Rocky. Well, that was an hysterical exercise. Rocky was having none of this process; he had to figure out a way to live through snow storms and frigid temps, which he did.
This is Rocky's route to nest for the evening. I missed the initial hop into the tree.
One more cold month that Rocky has to endure, then he can move about the 'hood. There will be more attempts to capture him and hopefully get him out to a beautiful farm with eight ladies waiting for him.
I loved the Rocky video & story. What a beautiful bird! 😂 ..."play in reverse to see the night time ritual"...
